City Of Water And Light

Invercargill Water TowerInvercargill is New Zealand’s southernmost city and the commercial heart of Southland. It is Southland’s major service centre and transport hub – the airport links travellers with other main centers within hours and trains and buses depart nationwide daily.

The city offers an excellent range of shops, a focused business district, lively café/bars and restaurants and late night entertainment. The inner city upgrade has transformed the city centre into a modern, attractive and vibrant heart of the city. The variety and number of heritage buildings in the city centre add to Invercargill’s character.

Invercargill is also well known for the Southland Museum and Art Gallery (encased in the largest pyramid in the Southern hemisphere) and chief among the attractions there are the live tuatara.

Queen’s Park is an 80-hectare park in the centre of the city, which offers a range of facilities including one of Invercargill’s four 18-hole golf courses. Another well-known park is only a short drive from the city centre and includes the Anderson Park Art Gallery where a wonderful collection of New Zealand Art can be found.
Invercargill is known far and wide for its hospitality to visitors and is the gateway to some of New Zealand’s most beautiful scenery, including Stewart Island, Fiordland and the Catlins.
