Bluff Bluff is the oldest European town in New Zealand, having been settled continuously since 1824. Visitors can cruise by ferry or fly by helicopter from Bluff to Stewart Island/Rakiura. With a mountain bike track and walking tracks accessible from carparks located at the summit of Bluff Hill, Gunpit Road and Stirling Point – the beginning of SH1 –recreation opportunities are vast.
Omaui A small settlement on the shores of the New River Estuary near the mouth of the Waihopai and Oreti rivers. Rich in Maori history, the first Kgai Tahu member to venture this far south, Waitai was killed here. The estuary and adjoining coastline was the primary food source for the village.
Stewart Island Stewart Island is home to Rakiura National Park, New Zealand’s southern-most National Park. Rakiura is one of the Maori names given to the Island, which recalls glowing sunrises, sunsets and the aurora australis or “Southern Lights”. View native birds at Ulva Island, enjoy short walks in the native bush around the town or, for longer walking opportunities, try the overnight tramps on the Rakiura Track, North West and Southern circuits. Invercargill Long, wide streets, elegant and spacious parks and gardens, striking architecture and huge beaches are made even that more impressive by the endless blue skies. Invercargill offers a wide range of accommodation, eating and retail outlets to suit every traveller. Invercargill's airport is situated on the outskirts of the city.
Otatara As the gateway to Oreti Beach, Otatara is a small settlement situated on the outskirt of Invercargill city. Set amongst stunning native bush, Otatara offers several eateries and a variety of outdoor activities.
