Invercargill Rides

Mountain Biking Track, Sandy Point, InvercargillOreti Beach: Start at the mountain bike track, ride south along Sandy Point Road and turn right onto Christies Road. At the end of the road climb over the sand hills to get to the beach, head south to the mouth of the estuary. Approximately 2 km along the estuary look for a road on the left, at the first intersection turn right and follow the signs pointing to Invercargill to get back to the mountain bike track.
THIS RIDE CAN ONLY BE DONE AT LOW TIDE. If it is not low tide try the following ride.

Daffodil Bay: From the mountain bike track head south along Sandy Point Road to the Water-ski club turn left and follow road along to Daffodil Bay. From here continue along road to the next intersection turn left to go to Whalers Bay or right to go to the mountain bike track.

Fosbender Park: Start at the chain, ride along the vehicle track at the first intersection take the right branch (the left track goes to the walking track, which you can not ride on). Follow along this track until you reach a gate, climb over you now have a couple of options- following the fence on the right will bring you out onto Pitt road turn left and follow it back to Dunn's Road. The fence on the left take you into the forest, straight ahead at the first tee intersection, left at the next 2, right at the next and straight ahead at the next 2 will bring you out at the Scout camp. There are other tracks that all link up to make these rides longer.

Flood Banks: There are three rides along flood banks. They are the Waihopai River, Otepuni creek and Kingswell creek.

Waihopai River: Starting points - Stead Street Bridge, North Road, Queens Drive, and Racecourse Road. From any of these points ride upstream to the dam and return on the other side of the river.

Otepuni Creek: Starting points. Anywhere between Clyde St and Racecourse Road. Ride along one bank and return on the other.

Kingswell Creek: Starting points. Bluff Road, Ellis Road, Brown Street or Chenesy Street. Ride along one bank and return on the other.

Donovan Park/Anderson Park: Start on Bainfield Road and head north through Donovan Park and turn right onto McIvor Road. Turn left onto the Anderson Park Drive and follow to the car park. Return the same way. To lengthen this ride continue to -

Thomson's Bush: Start on Queens Drive, follow along the north flood bank towards North Road at the back of the bush drop down to the track and follow it into bush. This track will bring you out on the gravel road, which loops around inside the bush and will take you back to Queens Drive.

Queens Park: Start at the old Swimming pool car park and follow the fitness trail around the park, which will bring you back to the car park.

Bluff Rides

Bluff Hill Downhill Track: This track starts near the top of the long straight on the road to the Bluff Hill Lookout, approximately 100m form the top of the straight there is a gravel track on the left (going uphill) the single track is just below this. The first couple of minutes are a cross-country style track with a carry section through a couple of creeks to reach the Downhill section. The main track head down the RSA Cemetery near the bottom of the Bluff Hill Lookout Road, there are some other tracks off the main track, which all join back on again and others may be added at any time.
